opium poppy

S/S 2022

This collection was developed as my senior thesis and draws inspiration from poppies. In Hmong culture, the poppy holds deep cultural significance. It was once a vital cash crop for many families living in the mountainous regions of Southeast Asia, symbolizing both survival and resilience.

Though its role as a source of income has faded, the poppy continues to represent beauty and cultural pride in Hmong heritage. I was drawn to both its history and its form. The dried poppy pods became the foundation for my design concept; their organic silhouettes influenced the shapes and construction of my garments, while their delicate skeletons inspired my original textile designs.
